The Myth of Mediocrity

A frustrated kiddo is the norm NOT the exception!

  • Less than 10% of American students graduate at the advanced level.
  • More than 70% of American students graduate below proficiency in all academic subjects.

At best, our education system produces mediocrity. At worst, our education system leads to a tragically poor quality of life for many kids and families.

But….kids are far from mediocre!

Kids learn to do exceptional things every day.

We have evolved as a species with a miraculous ability to learn from our environments.

With explicit instruction and repeated, reinforced practice, humans can master unbelievably complex repertoires.
Sadly, most of the exceptional things kids master happen OUTSIDE the classroom because the way schools are designed doesn’t work.

But, it doesn’t have to be this way.

Instruction guided by the science of learning leads to exponential learning gains for every learner.

Mastery of Academic Skills Requires

  • Explicit instruction
  • Precise, repeated & reinforced practice
  • Continuous measurement of learning
  • Data-informed decisions made about instruction
